Finneas O’Connell is a singer, songwriter, and music producer. He produced almost all the songs for Billie Elish and he is personally one of my favorites.
Finneas is a crazy hitmaker and I love the fact he always going the “Less is more” approach. The uniqueness in his hits is just mind-blowing to me. There are so many things you can learn from his production techniques.
What Daw does FINNEAS use?
Logic Pro X is the DAW that FINNEAS uses. He uses Logic Pro X for all his production.
Finneas has said in his videos that he tries to use the full potential of whatever he has with him.
That is something we all can learn from him and not limit ourselves thinking that you need every plugin on earth to get the right sounds.
For the song “bury a friend”, they used the sound of matches lighting. Which is pretty cool and unique.
If you are a producer and reading then make sure to experiment with your own sounds.
He is a typical bedroom producer who has songs that won countless awards. There aren’t super fancy gears that he uses and that is really fascinating.
I used to have this perspective that you need a lot of expensive gears to make great-sounding music but not anymore.
Having said that there a few gears that he uses and if you look at his bedroom setup, you’ll see that it is pretty simple and straight forward. Below is a video where all of his setups as seen in the video.

What VST Plugins Does Finneas Use?
ValhallaRoom
A famous reverb plugin which is very lightweight and yet produces a rich reverb sound. Finneas is seen using it on a video where Billie Elish and he are playing around.
Spectrasonics Keyscape
Spectrasonics Keyscape is an amazing Instrument from Spectrasonics that consists of the most beautiful sounds. This plugin is a must if you like those rich keyboard sounds and likes a humongous library.
Soundtoys Little Alterboy
Little AlterBoy is a plugin to create dramatic vocal alterations. You must have definitely heard the strange and unique vocal effects on Finneas and Billie’s tracks and mostly all of those effects come from this plugin.
Spectrasonics Omnisphere
Omnisphere is one of my favorite plugins and is used by Finneas along with a whole bunch of famous producers Such as Alan Walker, Martin Garrix. This is a plugin that has almost every sound you can think of and also lets you create your own synth.
The latest update of the Spectrasonics Omnisphere consists of a wide range of features and that makes it even more powerful.
What Gear Does Finneas use?
Microphone:
The two primary microphone that Finneas uses for all of his productions.
1. Neumann TLM 103 Condenser Microphone:
Neumann TLM 103 is a large cardioid microphone that is seen recording in a lot of videos on their channel. I personally think almost all of their super hit songs were recorded on this microphone.
2. Audio-Technica AT2020 Condenser Microphone
This is a really affordable condenser microphone and one my favorite. You can see 100s of famous YouTubers and artists using this mic. Both of these microphones are seen being used in the video below.
